The Shalom Center for Elder Abuse Prevention is partnering with the city of Mason for the 3rd Annual Shalom Sprint to Fight Elder Abuse. The Shalom Center opened in January 2012, and is the only program of its kind in the Tri-State area, and one of only 13 nationwide. It provides shelter for eligible seniors, aged 65 and over, who are victims of abuse, including a full range of health care and supportive services and a coordinated system of care. Managed by Cedar Village, the locations where clients are housed are kept confidential.  The focus is on getting the victims out of their current situations and helping them start down a new path. It’s important to know that victims of elder abuse can prosecute against their abusers, whether it’s physical, emotional or financial abuse, and the Shalom Center can help them find the appropriate legal services. Most individuals are referred to the Shalom Center through hospitals and other emergency services.

All of the services provided at the Shalom Center are completely free to those in need. Help from the community in the form of monetary and in-kind donations can make a big difference in the lives of victims.
